Building a More Neighborly World
Imagine what our real neighbors would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person. –Fred Rogers
Two dedicated writers.
Gen X mom.
Gen Z daughter.
Writing together, we muddle through how to help our communities become more neighborly, more supportive, more bonded…and more fun.
We don’t have all the answers. We just have thoughts. We have our eyes. We have our hands and we have our hearts. We have the crazy idea that maybe each of us does make a small difference, and that enough small differences together might make a big difference.
We have neighbors. We want to reach out to them. We want to live in a more connected real world, where people have block parties and talk to their neighbors on porches or apartment balconies.
We want to share what we’ve seen, as a forty-something woman and a teen who have traveled the country through adventures in observation, dislocation and relocation.
I’m XGen. I’m the forty-something. Former English and drama teacher, armchair cultural analyst and educational dreamer.
I’m Zee. I walk the halls of a big public high school every day. Junior high was private school, and before that I did some homeschooling. So I’ve seen a few different social environments for kids and teens.
Thank you for joining us. We hope you will offer your thoughts and your own experiences as we work to be better and more caring neighbors, and to extend neighborhood as deep and far as we can.
